The City of Gaspé formed a toponymy committee within its urban planning advisory committee in March 2016.
The toponymic naming policy frames the process during which a name is chosen for a public place. The objectives of the policy are as follows:
- Highlight the history and heritage of the City of Gaspé by naming its streets, roads, paths, buildings, places and any other geographic entity;
- Formalize a clear and respectful approach where citizens are involved;
- Establish an official list of named places and legally formalize their names with the Commission de la toponymie du Québec and other emergency and government services.
