The Town of Gaspé created a toponymy committee inside its planning advisory committee in March 2016.

The toponymic designation policy supports the process during which the name of a place of public use is chosen. The objectives of the policy are the following:

  • Promote the history and heritage of the Town of Gaspé by the designation of its streets, roads, ways, buildings, locations and of any other geographic entity;
  • Establish a clear and respectful approach in which citizens are involved;
  • Establish an official list of designated locations and give a legal status to their designations with the Commission de la toponymie du Québec and other emergency and government services.

A form will soon be available for individuals interested in submitting a name or a location to be named to the toponymy committee.
